Yeah, I know, you know all about trust and safety. After all, without trust coaching cannot exist. And let’s be clear: your clients don't need your help going through their life as they know it and stopping where they stop. They need you to help them take that next step forward, to go beyond where they normally stop. Whether it's by action, or acknowledging emotion, by daring to think differently or by anything else, we are constantly following a deep commitment to stay safe. To stick with the comfortable and familiar, even when it is causing us pain. And the simple fact is we do not move, we do not change, we do not grow because we do not trust.
And that is where you, dear coach, get to step in with this competency. Some of us naturally invite trust, it comes easy. Others have to work at it. But it is critical for coaching to occur. It’s important to also recognize that trust can be easily damaged or broken, in so many ways, without us even knowing it. And yet, there are also powerful ways we can strengthen, and deepen and grow trust. And that is where we begin. Do you trust me? I hope so, because we’re going to take you many steps beyond where you normally stop in this competency and in your coaching.
Of course, we will go through the basic definition and markers so that we are all on the same page, but then, if you are willing, and if you trust, we are going to go beyond where everyone else stops when it comes to cultivating trust and safety in our coaching with our clients.
